After six automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament were distributed on Tuesday, just one is up for grabs on Wednesday. The Patriot League will crown its tournament champion at 7:30 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network as No. 1 seed Colgate and No. 2 seed Navy square off.
Colgate won both regular season meetings, including a 74-69 affair in the regular-season finale for both teams on Feb. 26. But the Midshipmen should be plenty motivated to pull an upset as they seek the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1998. Colgate, on the other hand, has been dancing in each of the last two NCAA Tournaments.
The winner will become the 12th team to punch its ticket to the Big Dance ahead of Selection Sunday on CBS. Over the coming days, the number of teams securing their spots in the NCAA Tournament will steadily increase as conference tournaments wind to a close. In addition to the Patriot League title game on Wednesday, several conference tournaments will be in action and winding their way through preliminary rounds.
Second-round games in the ACC Tournament get going, and other big conferences such as the Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC each tip off with early-round games before Thursday’s slate brings out some of the sport’s heavy-hitters to begin their postseason journeys.
As automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament get handed out, here’s the full rundown of all those who have secured their spot in the NCAA Tournament.
