What to Know
The Butler Bulldogs and the Xavier Musketeers are set to clash at 4:30 p.m. ET March 9 at Madison Square Garden in the first round of the Big East Conference Tourney. The Musketeers will be strutting in after a win while Butler will be stumbling in from a loss.
Butler received a tough blow this past Saturday as they fell 78-59 to the Villanova Wildcats. A silver lining for the Bulldogs was the play of guard Chuck Harris, who had 19 points. Harris had some trouble finding his footing against the Marquette Golden Eagles two weeks ago, so this was a step in the right direction.
Meanwhile, if there were any doubts why Xavier was a heavy favorite Saturday, the squad quickly laid those doubts to rest. They put the hurt on the Georgetown Hoyas with a sharp 97-75 victory. Xavier’s success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but guard Colby Jones led the charge as he had 16 points and seven assists in addition to six rebounds.
Butler was close but no cigar when the two teams last met earlier in the regular season as they fell 68-66 to the Musketeers. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat, or is history doomed to repeat itself? We’ll soon find out.
