What to Know
The Toledo Rockets and the Central Michigan Chippewas are set to clash at 11 a.m. ET March 10 at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tourney. The Rockets will be strutting in after a win while CMU will be stumbling in from a defeat.
Toledo was the big favorite in their most recent matchup, and for good reason. They steamrolled past the Bowling Green Falcons 96-56 at home. Among those leading the charge for Toledo was forward JT Shumate, who had 22 points along with six boards.
Meanwhile, CMU was just a bucket shy of a victory this past Friday and fell 57-56 to the Akron Zips. The loss was just more heartbreak for CMU, who fell 60-56 when the teams previously met in January. Guard Kevin Miller wasn’t much of a difference maker for the Chippewas; Miller played for 34 minutes with and four turnovers.
A couple numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: The Rockets come into the game boasting the sixth most points per game in college basketball at 81.5. Less enviably, CMU is 14th worst in college basketball in points allowed per game, with 77.1 on average.
