The injury list continues to get longer for the Memphis Grizzlies. Ja Morant is the latest addition after leaving Friday’s win against the Oklahoma City Thunder with 3:09 left in the fourth quarter.
The Grizzlies (10-6) announced that Morant suffered a Grade 1 left ankle sprain Friday and will miss Sunday’s game at the Brooklyn Nets (7-9). A Grade 1 sprain is the least severe outcome possible on the grading scale. Morant will be evaluated to return on a week-to-week timeline.
Memphis is 0-2 without Morant this season. The all-star point guard is averaging 28.6 points, 7.1 assists and 6.2 rebounds in 14 games played.

Ankle injuries aren’t uncommon for Morant through his first four seasons.
Morant missed time two seasons ago with a left ankle injury, and he also missed a game last season when he hurt his left ankle after making contact with a cameraman. The Grizzlies (10-6) are also without Danny Green, Desmond Bane and Ziaire Williams. All of those players play on the wing, so their absences have affected the wing depth.
Tyus Jones, John Konchar and Kennedy Chandler should be expected to get the bulk of the backcourt minutes. Rookies Jake LaRavia and David Roddy should combine with Dillon Brooks to occupy the small forward minutes.
If there is a silver lining, the Grizzlies went 19-4 last season in games started by Jones. On top of Kyle Anderson and De’Anthony Melton no longer being with the Grizzlies, Bane played in most of the games when Jones started.
