Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving apologized to the Jewish community for his past comments in an interview with SNY’s Ian Begley on Saturday. Irving is currently serving a suspension by the Nets because of his tweeting a link to a film containing antisemitic material and for not apologizing when initially questioned about the tweet.
Irving is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies after it was reported earlier in the week that he is expected to play. Irving gave his first apology on Instagram, and later met with NBA commissioner Adam Silver.
Irving gave his apology and more in his interview with SNY on Saturday:
“I really want to focus on the hurt that I caused or the impact that I made within the Jewish community. Putting some type of threat, or assumed threat, on the Jewish community. I just want to apologize deeply for all my actions throughout the time that it’s been since the post was first put up. I’ve had a lot of time to think. But my focus, initially, if I could do it over, would be to heal and repair a lot of my close relationships with my Jewish relatives, brothers and sisters.”
