PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers were able to somehow come away with a 115-106 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday in the charged-up atmosphere with the return of Ben Simmons.
The Nets featured the likes of Simmons, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving out on the floor while the Sixers were missing their top three players in Joel Embiid, James Harden, and Tyrese Maxey. This one seemed like a contest where Philadelphia would be overmatched, but the Sixers dug deep and they were able to win in an upset.
The Sixers got a bunch of contributions from the likes of Tobias Harris, De’Anthony Melton, Paul Reed, Georges Niang, and others in order to come away with the win. Considering how shorthanded they are, the Sixers will take contributions from just about anybody at this point.
“You play the guys, you ride a hand,” said coach Doc Rivers. “Each guy is different. In the first half, I thought Georges really helped us offensively. In the second half, it was Tobias. In the beginning of the first half, I thought Trez (Montrezl Harrell) was good. The rest of the game, I thought Paul Reed was phenomenal.”
In order to come away with wins during this tough stretch, the Sixers will need to rely on the other guys to step up and have them do a variety of things out on the floor.
“Definitely,” Melton agreed. “I think being aggressive on both ends of the floor for 48 minutes. We got guys down so we gotta go out there and play together, play hard, and take care of the ball.”
Melton had 22 points on the night while knocking down six triples and he had quite a few moments on the defensive end as well. On top of that, Milton was able to make some big shots down the stretch so it was just an overall team effort on Tuesday.
“I thought De’Anthony Melton just through the game defensively was just unbelievable,” Rivers added. “Then down the stretch, Shake got it going. It’s different because it’s one of those games you have to figure out who the hot hand is for you offensively, try and ride that, and then defensively, you just have to be solid.”
