Iguodala to miss Dubs’ game vs. Bulls with right hip soreness originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
The Warriors will be without another key piece Sunday against the Chicago Bulls, as veteran forward Andre Iguodala is listed as out with right hip soreness.
Iguodala joins JaMychal Green, Jonathan Kuminga and James Wiseman on Golden State’s injury report.
Iguodala played a season-high 17:56 on Friday night in the Warriors’ 144-113 win over the Spurs at the Alamodome, scoring five points, grabbing four rebounds, dishing out one assist, and adding one steal and one block. He also had an impressive breakaway dunk halfway through the fourth quarter.
Overall, the 38-year-old has played in three games this season, averaging 2.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 14 minutes per game as coach Steve Kerr eases the veteran back into action.
“Andre, he looks great,” Kerr said after Friday’s game. “You know, he’s so smart. He’s so long and athletic and versatile defensively, and then just another passer, playmaker on offense. Whatever lineup he’s out there with, he makes better. And so, you know, knock on wood [that he] hopefully continues to stay healthy, and we’ll make sure we give him the appropriate rest to keep his body right going forward.
“Tonight was tough because we had several guys out. I didn’t really want to play [center Kevon] Looney the last five, six minutes but didn’t have much choice. It was a good night for Andre. He played really well.”
With Iguodala now out, expect Moses Moody, Ty Jerome and recently recalled rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr. to see more minutes Sunday, though that will lessen support for Looney and Draymond Green in the post.
“Right now he’s our third big, and so I don’t know that that will continue to be the rotation pattern, but we like to have either Loon or Draymond on the floor at all times,” Kerr said. “So, Andre is coming in for Loon early. So, he’s playing the four with Draymond, and then Loon comes back for Draymond, and Andre stays in that lineup and plays with Loon, and so it just seems to work well that way where he can pair with either one of those guys.”
