Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn has asked a lot out of his players since he took over the team earlier this season. Those demands have increased as he is trying to keep the team afloat until Kevin Durant comes back from his right MCL sprain.
In Friday’s 117-106 win over the Utah Jazz, the Nets have done just about everything he has asked them to do. They had a strong start to this game (won the first quarter 28-22) and shot more threes (41 three-point attempts) in order to balance their shooting profile and lean more towards the skill sets of the players.
At one point, Brooklyn got away from what was working, but thanks to Kyrie Irving and his 48 points, the Nets were able to overcome those mistakes and defeat the Jazz. Vaughn spoke after the game about how the Nets have been doing as they were told against the Jazz:
“Yeah, a big part of that was pick-and-roll play and getting involved who we want to be involved. I thought the spacing was good, or similar to, the Phoenix game where we were able to capitalize. 34 points in the fourth, we shot over forty three’s tonight. So, that’s that balance and mix that we were talking about. Guys made plays at the rim, available for their teammates, and guys made shots, that always helps. 23 points for them in the fourth so we were doing it on both ends.”
