When an NBA player misses a game for personal reasons, even ones as momentous as the birth of a child, fans of the team they play for can often take things in quite an unhealthy manner, acting as if the fans were deprived of something owed to them. And if said player has interests beyond basketball off the court, a similar sort of adverse reaction among fans is not uncommon.
But, as an outspoken critic of such points of view and a player with a well-known busy schedule away from the sport he plays for a living, star Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown wants you to know NBA players are more than just athletes and entertainers.
Speaking with teammates Jayson Tatum and Marcus Smart on the Showtime Basketball “KG Certified” podcast hosted by two Boston alumni in Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, Brown got into the importance of balancing basketball and off-the-court goals.
