NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets center Nic Claxton had himself quite the game in Thursday’s 101-96 loss to the Sacramento Kings. He had 14 points, 14 rebounds, and two steals in the losing effort despite being in foul trouble for a good portion of the game. However, he pointed to a different reason for why Brooklyn lost to the Kings on Thursday.
“Just similar to how we’ve been in the past where we put ourselves in a hole,” Claxton said in his postgame interview when asked what prevented the Nets from completing the comeback. “We’re trying to fight back and we might get it to like six points and they hit a timely three, push it back to nine,” Claxton continued.
This game was essentially a back-and-forth affair, albeit a low-scoring one, until the end of the first half. With 3:36 left in the second quarter, Nets forward Royce O’Neale made a three to tied the game at 41-41. From there, Sacramento went on a 13-0 run to end the half and that may have been the difference in the game. “We’ve been in that situation quite a few times in our last few losses and even in some of our wins where, we just fighting back and I kind of sound like a broken record but, we just got to, we can’t put ourselves in a hole like that.”
The Nets will have a chance to avenge their last two losses when they face the Denver Nuggets on Sunday.
