Damion Lee back to space floor from 3 for Phoenix Suns

LAS VEGAS — Phoenix Suns will need guys to space the floor for Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal and Deandre Ayton.

Enter Damion Lee.

After shooting a career-best 45.5% from 3 last season in his first year with the Suns, Lee is back on a two-year deal for $5.3 million.

“For me, it’s just about doing my job,” Lee said. “Not looking at stats from last year, not looking too far forward until what the next year can bring. Just coming in ‘Daily Deposit Crew,’ doing what I do every single day. Coming in, having fun, being a great teammate, shooting the ball at a high clip, the things that I feel like I do at a high level and try to hold myself accountable each and every single day.”

Phoenix Suns guard Damion Lee (10) jokes around with teammates before their game against the Denver Nuggets at Footprint Center in Phoenix on March 31, 2023.

Lee joined the Suns on a one-year deal last season after being part of Golden State’s 2021-22 NBA championship team.

“It feels good,” Lee said. “I’m excited. I took a chance coming here last year on a one-year deal and being able to turn that into a multiyear deal. So, that’s huge for myself and my family. A little bit of security, but still trying to continue to find my way in this league and learn my teammates.”

Lee has his share of new teammates starting with Bradley Beal, who the Suns acquired in a blockbuster deal that sent Chris Paul to the Wizards.

“Anytime you have All-NBA guys, you’re excited about playing, but you can be as excited as you want, but 48 minutes have to be played over a span of 82 games plus,” Lee said. “It’s a matter of figuring that out, whatever that is. I just have to focus on a couple of things I bring to the team and let the coaches figure out the rest.”
