Germany’s Dennis Schroder is FIBA World Cup MVP

Dennis Schroder was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

During Germany’s finals match against Serbia, Schroder registered 28 points, two assists, and two rebounds as Deutschland completed a sweep of the tournament for its first FIBA World Cup title.

In the tournament, the team captain of Germany posted averages of 19.1 points, 6.1 assists, and 2 rebounds per game.

Joining Schroder in the All-Star Five are Canada’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, USA’s Anthony Edwards, Serbia’s Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Slovenia’s Luka Doncic.

In Serbia’s final game against Germany, Bogdanovic had 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists. He also averaged 19.1 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game in the tournament.

SGA had averages of 24.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game as Canada placed third in the tourney. Edwards, meanwhile, had 18.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game as the United States finished fourth.

Doncic, on the other hand, put up 27 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game as Slovenia placed seventh overall.

Simone Fontecchio (Italy), Arturs Zagars (Latvia), Jonas Valanciunas (Lithuania), Nikola Milutinov (Serbia), and Franz Wagner (Germany) comprised the All-Second Team.

Josh Giddey of Australia was given the Rising Star Award, while Canada’s Dillon Brooks was named the Best Defensive Player.

Latvia coach Luca Banchi was awarded the Best Coach of the tournament. 

At the end of the tourney, Germany won its first World Cup title after defeating Serbia, 83-77.
