The New York Knicks may have to start going by the Nova Knicks this season as they have added yet another Villanova alum to their roster, signing Ryan Arcidiacono.
Per SNY NBA Insider Ian Begley, the deal is an exhibit 9 pact which gives New York protection if Arcidiacono gets hurt during training camp.
On the Knicks for two seasons from 2021-2023, Arcidiacono returns to New York and joins his former Wildcat teammates Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo in the Big Apple.
The 28-year-old point guard started his career with the Chicago Bulls during the 2017-18 season after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He played four seasons in Chicago, starting in 36 games (207 appearances) before joining the Knicks in 2021 where he played in just 10 contests (zero starts).
In an even more diminished role the following season, Arcidiacono, along with Cam Reddish, Svi Mykhailiuk and a 2023 first-round pick (that ended up being Kris Murray), found himself on his way to the Portland Trail Blazers in a trade for Hart, his former teammate at Villanova.
The two will now join forces once again and for the first time with the Knicks.
In six seasons in the NBA, Arcidiacono, nicknamed “The Arch of Dimes” for his incredible passing ability, has averaged 4.4 points and two assists in 16.4 minutes per game.
The Knicks also waived Dmytro Skapintsev on Friday.
