INDEPENDENCE — Caris LeVert insists he would like to continue his NBA career in his home state.

Re-signing with the Cavaliers would do the trick for the Columbus native.

On the heels of the Cavs’ season-ending loss to the New York Knicks in the first round of the NBA playoffs, LeVert said Thursday he “absolutely” wants to return to Cleveland. He’s scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer.

“I definitely want to be a part of this culture, be a part of this team,” LeVert said. “This group is a super special group, and I definitely want to be a part of that. But you all know it’s a business, so we’ll see what happens this summer, but I would love to come back.”

LeVert, 28, said he has talked to coach J.B. Bickerstaff about returning and his agent has engaged in conversations with the Cavaliers front office along the same lines.

“They know how I feel about coming back,” LeVert said.

LeVert served as the Cavs’ sixth man for more than half the 2022-23 season but started the final three of their five playoff games against the Knicks in Cleveland’s 4-1 series defeat. He averaged 12.1 points on 43.1% shooting from the field in the regular season and 15 points on 42.9% shooting in the postseason.

“After the trade deadline [in February], I kind of found a rhythm and [started] just embracing my role,” he said. “So I just tried to ride that out through the end of the season.”
