Could the Houston Rockets end up poaching star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown?

Could the Houston Rockets end up poaching star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown? That’s the hope within the front office according to new reporting from Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer. Writing after the hire of former Celtics head coach Ime Udoka, Fischer details how Brown “has been one of Udoka’s most public supporters after Boston suspended the coach following an improper relationship with a Celtics staffer.”

More importantly for Celtics fans, the Rockets front office “also addressed the idea of including second-year guard Jalen Green, the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NBA draft, as part of a package for acquiring established star talent.”

On its surface, this seems like some pretty aggressive positive thinking on the part of Houston. But if the Georgia native makes All-NBA and elects not to sign a supermax extension he would be eligible for as a result, it’s not a far-fetched outcome.

Should Brown somehow miss making All-NBA and signal he wants to test free agency with no guarantees he will be back, such a decision tree could plausibly end up unfolding to the Rockets’ benefit as well.

But in the current absence of all those elements lining up and no outward signs that Brown wishes to be elsewhere, this seems more like some feelers being sent out through the media as to whether such a possibility might even be something the Cal alum would consider.
