LeBron has ‘utmost respect’ for Steph, applauds his work ethic originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Steph Curry and LeBron James have a storied NBA playoff history, and now they’ll meet for a fifth time in the postseason during the Western Conference semifinals.

But while Curry is in his 14th season with Golden State, James instead will be wearing a Los Angeles Lakers jersey after facing Golden State four times in the NBA Finals as a Cleveland Cavalier. One thing has remained constant over the years, however — both stars remain at the top of their game.

At Lakers practice Monday, James reflected on Curry’s NBA career and why the two All-Stars bring out the best in each other.

“He puts in the work, and when you put in the work, nine times out of 10, you’re going to see results,” James told reporters. “And he’s done that throughout his whole entire career. I’ve got nothing but the utmost respect for Steph and everything he’s been able to accomplish not only on the floor but also off the floor, too. It’s great to have people like that in this league that can set an example for the generation to come.”

At ages 35 and 38, respectively, Curry and James have defied age and continue to shock the rest of the league with their longevity. James broke the all-time NBA scoring record back in February, and on Sunday, Curry record the first 50-point Game 7 in league history.

The Curry vs. James debate has dominated sports talk headlines for years now, serving as a testament to the skill of both players who will go down as NBA legends long after their playing days are over. Basketball fans again get to see two of the greatest to ever do it go head-to-head again Tuesday at Chase Center, and the two living legends are sure to put on a show.

“Just two of the most competitive players that’s ever played the game, and we want to etch our name in the history books as much as we can, but playing, doing it all our own way,” James said.
