Indiana Hoosiers fans turned out in big numbers this past season for the men’s basketball program.

According to a release from IU, the Hoosiers led the Big Ten Conference in attendance for the first time since 2013-14. The program was eighth in the country with 273,721 fans clicking the turnstiles at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in 17 home games.

Indiana averaged 16,101 fans per contest and listed a capacity of 17,222.

“Our program is grateful to the many fans who make up Hoosier Nation,” IU coach Mike Woodson said. “I’ve never wavered from my belief that we have the best fans in the country. I’ve been a part of this program since 1976 and we are blessed to have one of the most loyal and supportive fan bases in college basketball year in and year out.”

NBA Draft 2023: Trayce Jackson-Davis knew NBA teams wanted to see him shoot more. But winning came first.

During Woodson’s first season as IU’s coach in 2021-22, IU was ninth in the country and second in the conference. It is the first time since 2016 and 2017 that IU has finished in the top 10 in consecutive years.

It is also the first time since 2014 that IU had the most fans drawn in the Big Ten. Since Assembly Hall opened for the 1971-72 season, Indiana has finished among the top 10 programs 39 times and led the league 23 times.

The Hoosiers’ highest rank came in 2012-13 when they averaged 17,412 fans attending 19 home games.
