B/R predicts Brooklyn Nets will not trade Mikal Bridges this offseason

The Brooklyn Nets will receive substantial offers for budding star wing Mikal Bridges, but they will resist all temptations to trade him, according to a prediction by Bleacher Report. According to the article, B/R made its various predictions based off the news/rumors that are percolating through the NBA space at this moment.

While this has been made clear before, it should be noted once again that Brooklyn has never been rumored in any way to have a desire to trade Bridges. While there have been rumors about the Nets going after Damian Lillard or Trae Young, those have been indicators of Brooklyn’s interest in those players if they decide to go star-hunting this summer. What the Nets would give up along the way is a different matter.

Bridges came to Brooklyn via the Kevin Durant trade and even the Nets did not want to trade Durant, the deal allowed Brooklyn to restock some of its draft capital and the trade netted them some young players that are universally desired around the league like Bridges and restricted free-agent wing Cam Johnson.

Johnson’s restricted free-agency will be a topic of discussion this offseason, but Bridges will eventually be at the forefront if Brooklyn wants to be as competitive as possible being that the Houston Rockets has control over the Nets’ draft for the next few seasons thanks to the James Harden trade. Once Bridges was traded to Brooklyn, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that the Memphis Grizzlies were willing to trade four first-round picks for Bridges. Here’s what Bleacher Report had to say about their prediction regarding Bridges:

“All eyes will be on the Brooklyn Nets this summer, a team that has stockpiled three-and-D wings and has a collection of other talented players who can help title contenders.

The best of the bunch is Mikal Bridges, who put up 26.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.0 steals and shot 37.6 percent from three for the Nets following a trade from the Phoenix Suns. At just under $70 million owed to him over the next three years, he looks like one of the NBA’s best bargains as well.
