College basketball top 50 transfer portal rankings 2023: LSU lands Daimion Collins to continue overhaul

LSU continued its roster overhaul through the transfer portal on Thursday by picking up a commitment from former Kentucky forward Daimion Collins. A former five-star prospect, Collins is ranked No. 47 in the CBS Sports Transfer Rankings and chose the Tigers over TCU and Wichita State after two seasons with the Wildcats.

With six transfers and two freshmen now committed, LSU will trot out another opening-night rotation that will be largely unrecognizable from the season before as the program continues its extensive makeover under second-year coach Matt McMahon. The transition from former coach Will Wade to McMahon, along with the possibility of sanctions from Wade’s tenure — the program is still awaiting the results of its case — led to a mass exodus from the program last season. 

McMahon quickly restocked through the portal but LSU struggled to a 14-19 record in his first season, resulting in another roster remix. With Collins in the fold along with No. 21-ranked transfer Jalen Cook, LSU has two of the sport’s top 50 transfers committed for next season. Also coming are former Vanderbilt guard Jordan Wright, former Santa Clara guard Carlos Stewart, ex-Nevada big man Will Baker and former George Washington forward Hunter Dean.

Collins appeared in 52 games during his two seasons with Kentucky but never carved out a consistent role while dealing with the physical and emotional toll of his father’s sudden death this past season. Now he will look to follow in the footsteps of other former Kentucky forwards such as Keion Brooks (Washington) and Bryce Hopkins (Providence) and find stardom after transferring.

More than 1,700 Division I players hit the portal before the May 11 entry deadline for non-graduates and some have yet to announce their destination. Here at CBS Sports, we have distilled the massive number of transfers to a list of the top 50 names to know.
