Bulls arrange workout with Wake Forest’s Tyree Appleby

The Chicago Bulls are in a tough spot this summer in terms of adding new talent. Their roster will get expensive quickly, especially if they decide to bring back Nikola Vucevic on a new contract. They could use some new players on cost-controlled deals, but unfortunately, they don’t currently have a pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Chicago still has plenty of time to trade into the draft, and they’re staying active ahead of the big event. They’ve been interviewing some high-level prospects, but they’re also taking a look at some guys who could fall deep into the second round or go undrafted.

According to Daniel Greenberg, the Bulls recently scheduled a workout Wake Forest guard Tyree Appleby, who isn’t projected to be drafted in most mocks.

“The Chicago Bulls have scheduled a workout with draft prospect Tyree Appleby, per sources.

Appleby is considered the fastest point guard in the draft and averaged 18.8 points, 6.4 assists, and 1.7 steals this past season at Wake Forest where he was named ACC POY,” Greenberg tweeted.

Appleby is entering the draft after six collegiate seasons. He played for two years at Cleveland State, three years at Florida (including a red-shirt season), and two years at Wake Forest. He is 24 years old and will turn 25 on September 30.

Obviously, he’s not a super young prospect, but long-term college players have become more common in recent years, with guys like Ayo Dosunmu, Caleb Martin, and Jalen Brunson all finding success.

That’s not to say Appleby will be the next Brunson, but just because he’ll be 25 at the time of the draft doesn’t mean Chicago should turn away from the idea of bringing him aboard.
