Paul Mulcahy has pulled out of the NBA Draft

[ad_1]

As the start of the college basketball season inches closer, reinforcements could be on the way for Rutgers basketball.. News broke on Thursday that Mulcahy will not be entering the NBA draft. According to  Brian Fonseca (for New Jersey Advanced Media), Mulcahy’s name was on the list released by the NBA on Thursday of prospects who pulled their names out of the draft’s early entrant pool.

Although Mulcahy participated in multiple draft workouts over the last few weeks, he was not invited to the NBA Draft Combine or the G-League Elite Camp.

While the New Jersey native has not made a public announcement, he has one year left of eligibility. Rutgers backcourt would receive a significant boost with him back on the roster. During his time at Piscataway, Rutgers has gone 73-52 with the Gill St. Bernard’s High School product in the lineup.

As Mulcahy dealt with injuries last season, he still made an impact when he was healthy. In 30 games, Mulcahy averaged 8.3 points, the second-highest total of his career. He was also a threat on defense, setting a career-high in steals with 46.

If he does return, the talented guard will also have a chance to make program history. Mulcahy could lead Rutgers to the most NCAA Tournament appearances in a four-season stretch. For a team with much to prove, that would be added motivation.

While Mulcahy has a few options, such as pursuing a professional career overseas or entering the transfer portal, Rutgers fans hope he is back in Piscataway in the fall.
