Mike Miles Jr. brings toughness

The Philadelphia 76ers do not have a draft pick in the 2023 NBA draft on June 22. They traded their first-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets in the deal that brought James Harden to the City of Brotherly Love at the 2022 deadline, and they were docked second-round picks in 2023 and 2024 by the NBA for tampering.

However, that doesn’t mean the Sixers will or should be inactive around the draft process. There will be a number of talented players who go undrafted, meaning the Sixers should be able to add a young player who could potentially become a rotation player.

One should not brush off undrafted players. The Miami Heat, who are in the NBA Finals, are a prime example of investing in young talent and giving them time to develop. They have seven undrafted players on their roster, four in their rotation.

The next player that Sixers Wire will profile in this series is TCU guard Mike Miles Jr. who brings an offensive mind and toughness to the perimeter.

Strengths

Miles Jr. isn’t an athletic marvel, but he’s so strong and tough when he gets to the basket. He is able to power through defenders, which allowed him to average 17.9 points on 49.7% shooting. He can break defenders down off the dribble and his strength allows him to be effective on the offensive end of the floor. He needs to be more consistent as a 3-point shooter, but that can come with time.

He’s a very solid perimeter defender as he is somebody who can bring it and produce on both ends of the floor. His strength and toughness are big assets for him on that end of the floor and when it comes to the bigger guards in the NBA, Miles Jr. could do a solid job against them.

Weaknesses

Miles Jr. isn’t the most consistent shooter and that is something that has to improve over time. He is a guy who can put the ball in the basket, but he doesn’t have the smoothest jumper. For him to make it in this league, the jump shot will have to improve because the ball-handling ability isn’t there just yet.
