Behind Jake LaRavia, Memphis Grizzlies defeat Thunder 94-86 in NBA summer league

The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 94-86 in their second summer league game at Delta Center.

The Grizzlies made a summer league record 17 3-pointers Wednesday.

Jake LaRavia led the way with 25 points. Four other Grizzlies players scored in double figures — Kenneth Lofton Jr. (12 points), Vince Williams Jr. (18), Jacob Gilyard (10) and Matthew Hurt (10). Rookie forward GG Jackson added eight points.

Jake LaRavia’s first quarter spark

LaRavia bounced back from an inconsistent performance in the summer league opener, shooting 9-for-16 from the field Wednesday.

LaRavia had a changed mindset by attacking the basket, getting his rhythm from the free-throw line and allowing his 3-point shot to follow.

He had 16 points in the first 10 minutes and nailed three of his four 3-pointers with the offense running through him.

Ball movement, sharp passing and chemistry 

The Grizzlies seem to b finding their stride on the offensive end in summer league.

Much of the roster played together in last year’s exhibitions, particularly LaRavia, Williams, Lofton and David Roddy. The chemistry helped, with Memphis recording 23 assists on 30 made field goals Wednesday.

Roddy had eight points on 2-for-12 shooting against OKC.

Final dress rehearsal before Las Vegas

The Grizzlies will face the Utah Jazz in their last game in Salt Lake before heading to Las Vegas for the remainder of summer league.

The Las Vegas games will be held from July 7-17. The Grizzlies will play four games in Vegas.
