OKC Thunder to play NBA preseason game in Lu Dort’s hometown of Montreal

A homecoming is in store for Thunder guard Lu Dort.

The Thunder and the Pistons, as announced Thursday by the NBA, will play a preseason game on Oct. 12 in Dort’s hometown of Montreal.

The game is one of two that will be played in the NBA’s ninth annual Canada Series. On Oct. 8, the Raptors and Kings will play in Vancouver.

Dort, who’s currently in training camp with the Canadian national team, issued the following statement:

“After growing up and learning to play the game of basketball in Montreal, it will be a special experience to play a preseason game in my hometown. Canada and Montreal are home to some of the best basketball fans in the world, and I’m looking forward to taking the floor at Bell Centre.”

Dort grew up in Montreal-Nord, a neighborhood Dort described as “tough.” Last summer, in Montreal-Nord, Dort received a medal of honor from the Quebec National Assembly for his inspiring journey to the NBA.

Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who’s from Hamilton, Ontario, will also be a big draw in Montreal.

Gilgeous-Alexander and Dort are both expected to play for Team Canada in the FIBA World Cup later this month.

A week after the Thunder and Pistons play in Montreal, the Thunder will host the Pistons at BOK Center in Tulsa in another preseason game.
