Analyst believes Brooklyn Nets made a mistake by not trading Royce O’Neale

The Brooklyn Nets have made some moves this offseason to try to put the team in the best position to make it back to the playoffs next season and hopefully, have some success as well. However, there is one person who believes that a move that Brooklyn didn’t make will come back to bite them.

Michael Saenz of Sir Charles In Charge believes that one of the worst moves that the Nets made this summer was not trading forward Royce O’Neale. There were reports earlier this offseason that Brooklyn was open to trading O’Neale, but only if they were able to get a first-round pick in return.

The general gist surrounding O’Neale is that teams that are interested in acquiring him do not want to give up that kind of draft capital. Brooklyn traded a first-round pick to the Utah Jazz last summer for O’Neale and even though it seems that the Nets still want O’Neale, they may not be able to trade him for a first-round pick unless he has a better season in 2023-24 than he did last season.

Here’s why Saenz believes that Brooklyn made a mistake by not trading O’Neale:

“With the emergence of Mika Bridges and Cameron Johnson, and to some extent after the signing of Lonnie Walker, Royce O’Neale’s role with the team is very much in question. He’s a player that the Nets could’ve easily moved at the NBA Draft or even in free agency. They elected not to and his trade value is only going to decrease as an expiring contract.

I didn’t really understand the idea behind keeping him on the roster.”
