A fan — presumably one who roots for the Kings — was fed up late in their team’s 135-123 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday night at Golden 1 Center.

With 46 seconds remaining in regulation, a fan threw a chicken wing onto the court, stopping play as an arena worker ran onto the court to collect the piece of food.

“It’s a chicken wing! Why would someone throw something that good out on the floor? It’s crispy, it’s warm, and I almost had to go out and get it, I’m so hungry!”

TNT play-by-play broadcaster Kevin Harlan narrated the moment perfectly.

“Why would someone throw something that good out on the floor?” Harlan told analyst Reggie Miller. “It’s crispy, it’s warm, and I almost had to go out and get it, I’m so hungry.”

The wayward wing likely was a result of Kings fans’ growing frustration with the team, which is sliding as the NBA postseason nears.

The loss on Thursday drops the Kings to 45-35, the same record as the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers. By virtue of the head-to-head tiebreakers, Sacramento remains as the Western Conference’s No. 8 seed, ahead of its two Pacific Division rivals.

But the Kings are on shaky ground at the moment, having lost six of their last nine games.

The Kings have two regular-season games remaining — at home against the Phoenix Suns on Friday and at home against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday — to right the ship.

The expectations for the Kings this season were sky-high after a breakout 2022-23 campaign, but the team hasn’t lived up to the hype and now fans are resorting to throwing food on the court.

It’s not an act that is condoned, but considering how the team has played, the frustration level is understandable.
