The conference finals are underway in the 2024 NBA playoffs, and the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks have not dropped a single game in their current series. The fifth-seeded Mavericks are just two wins away from the NBA Finals after they went to Minneapolis and stole Games 1 and 2 from the third-seeded Timberwolves by a total of four points. Luka Doncic has outscored Anthony Edwards 65-40 in the first two games in a battle of All-NBA performers.
The Western Conference finals shifts to Dallas on Sunday night, where Edwards and the Timberwolves desperately need a win to extend the series back to Minnesota.
The Celtics, up 3-0 against the Indiana Pacers, will go for the series sweep on Monday night in Indiana, where the Pacers just dropped their first game in these playoffs. Boston, the No. 1 seed in the East, rallied from 18 points down and can earn its second NBA Finals trip in three years with another win Monday.
Jrue Holiday was the late hero for Boston in Game 3 when he converted a three-point play with 38.9 seconds left to give Boston its first lead in nearly 36 minutes. He followed that with the game-saving steal and two insurance free throws.
Regardless of which of the four remaining teams wins the 2024 title, the NBA will have its sixth different champion in six years — something that has not happened since 1975-1980.
The postseason field started with 20 teams, and now we’re down to four. The Warriors, Kings, Hawks and Bulls were ousted in the Play-In Tournament before the Pelicans, Suns, Clippers, Lakers, Heat, 76ers, Bucks and Magic were eliminated in the first round. The Cavs, Thunder, Knicks and Nuggets were sent home in the second round.
