Sycamores will play at Ohio State in men’s basketball

Indiana State’s rebuilt men’s basketball team will play a big nonconference game at Ohio State on Dec. 29.

Ohio State’s newly released nonconference schedule shows the Sycamores will play the Buckeyes in Value City Arena at Columbus. The game time isn’t yet set.

Indiana State hasn’t yet announced its nonconference schedule.

The Sycamores are coming off a stellar 32-7 season, with a Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championship and a National Invitation Tournament runner-up finish. But, a majority of that team’s potential returnees, including all five starters, left via the NCAA transfer portal, and coach Josh Schertz left to coach at Saint Louis. Former top assistant Matthew Graves and a new staff has rebuilt the squad with a handful of returnees, portal transfers and high school recruits.

Ohio State finished last season at 22-14 overall and 9-11 in the Big Ten Conference. Jake Diebler was promoted to the Buckeyes’ head coach in March, after serving as associate head coach under former head coach Chris Holtmann, who’s now at DePaul.

ISU and OSU have never met in men’s basketball.
