GEORGETOWN — Malachi Moreno on Friday became the first member of Kentucky basketball’s 2025 recruiting class.
Moreno, one of the top players in the state of Kentucky in the 2025 cycle, committed to UK over his seven other finalists: Arkansas, Indiana, Louisville, Iowa, Ohio State, North Carolina and Notre Dame. He made his announcement Friday morning during a ceremony at Great Crossing High School’s gym.
A 7-footer with offers from nearly every prominent college program in the country, Moreno decided to stay home and play for coach Mark Pope and the Wildcats; Great Crossing High is just a stone’s throw from Lexington, which is less than 15 miles south down I-75.
Moreno is a consensus four-star prospect, garnering that rating from the four major recruiting services: Rivals, 247Sports, On3 and ESPN. Per the 247Sports Composite, Moreno is the nation’s No. 26 player in the 2025 class, ranking No. 2 among centers. He’s the top overall 2025 prospect in the Bluegrass State in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
