ISU women’s non-MVC foes include Iowa St., Marquette, Purdue

A handful of major-conference opponents spice up the Indiana State women’s basketball non-conference schedule for the upcoming college season.

First-year coach Marc Mitchell announced the schedule on Monday in an ISU sports information release.

The Trees’ 11-game non-conference schedule includes four games against teams from the Big East (Butler and Marquette), Big Ten (Purdue) and Big 12 (Iowa State) conferences and five total games against 2023-24 postseason teams.

ISU opens Nov. 4 at home against Western Kentucky in Hulman Center. It will be the third meeting of the schools in the past four seasons.

The Sycamores play Nov. 7 tilt at Iowa State of the Big 12 Conference. The Cyclones reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season. Indiana State and Iowa State have never met before. ISU ends a two-game road swing Nov. 12 at Wright State, one season after the Sycamores lost to the Raiders 72-63 in Hulman Center.

Indiana State plays its final home non-conference game Nov. 15 at home vs. Austin Peay. The Sycamores and Governors last played in 2001, with Austin Peay’s last trip to Terre Haute coming in 2000. Following the contest against Austin Peay, Indiana State plays seven straight games away from home, with six of those being true road games.

The Sycamores’ lengthy road trip to close the non-conference schedule starts Nov. 20 at Butler, a 2024 WNIT team, inside Hinkle Fieldhouse. Indiana State then plays Nov. 30 at Southeast Missouri State. The Sycamores defeated the Redhawks last season in Terre Haute.

ISU opens December against another 2024 NCAA Tournament team on Dec. 3 at Marquette of the Big East Conference. ISU last met the Golden Eagles in the 2014 WNIT, which Marquette won 63-61 in Hulman Center. Indiana State makes the short trek to Eastern Illinois on Dec. 6.

ISU plays in a Multi-Team Event (MTE) on Dec. 15-16 at Richmond, Kentucky. On the first day, Indiana State faces Northern Illinois, which the Sycamores played at the 2023 Puerto Rico Clasico;…
