Illinois vs Kansas score today: Live updates, highlights from Week 2 game

The Illinois Fighting Illini stunned the Kansas Jayhawks with a pick-6 to steal the lead with 36 seconds left in the first half Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois.

Xavier Scott jumped the route at the Kansas 30 for his second interception of the game, taking it back for a go-ahead touchdown and 13-10 lead.

Kansas broke up a 3-3 tank battle by shifting to an up-tempo drive that ended in a 3-yard TD catch by Luke Grimm for 10-3.

Illinois got answered that drive with a 50-yard field goal by David Olano with 65 seconds left.

Illinois stopped the Jayhawks on the opening possession of the game with an interception by Scott, then put together a 14-play drive for a 23-yard field goal and the game’s first points.

Kansas answered early in the second quarter with a field goal for 3-3.

Illinois (1-0) opened the season with a 45-0 home victory against Eastern Illinois. The Illini finished 5-7 last season, including 3-6 in the Big Ten. Kansas (1-0) competes in the Big 12 Conference and opened the season last weekend with a 48-3 victory against Lindenwood.

Xavier Scott strikes for a pick-6 in final seconds

Illinois defensive back/linebacker Xavier Scott jumped a route at the Kansas 30 and picked off Jalon Daniels for the second time in the half, racing untouched to the end zone to give the Illini a 13-10 lead with 36 seconds left.

The monster play arrived just as it seemed Kansas had turned the game and was building control.

Scott finished the half with five tackles and two interceptions.
