Kansas basketball guard Shakeel Moore to miss potentially 6-to-8 weeks due to injury

LAWRENCE — Kansas basketball graduate guard Shakeel Moore suffered a foot injury, a KU official has confirmed, that could sideline him anywhere from six-to-eight weeks.

Moore transferred to Kansas after a stint at Mississippi State, but started his college career at North Carolina State. He was a 247Sports Composite four-star prospect out of high school, and 247Sports ranked him as a three-star talent in the transfer portal. The timeframe for his return would allow him to return in time for the early stage of the regular season.

Kansas basketball coach Bill Self believes his roster now has the starter-depth he’s wanted

“Shakeel is a combo guard who can play on and off the ball,” KU head coach Bill Self said in a Jayhawks release back in June, after Moore signed with the program. “He’s a terrific athlete, and we feel like he will be a nice complement to the personnel already on the roster. His experience and maturity should allow him to be a good fit here.”

Moore is one of a group of transfers who joined Kansas over the course of the offseason. Senior guard Zeke Mayo (South Dakota State), junior guard AJ Storr (Wisconsin), junior guard Rylan Griffen (Alabama) and senior guard David Coit (Northern Illinois) are all also newcomers as well. Moore, when healthy, is likely set to have a role off the bench for the Jayhawks.

Kansas returns three of its regular starters from last season, in senior forward KJ Adams Jr., graduate center Hunter Dickinson and graduate guard Dajuan Harris Jr. Harris and Adams were both on the Jayhawks’ national championship team back in 2022. This current iteration of KU’s roster has set Self and company up to be viewed as a national title contender once again.

Then with Mississippi State, guard Shakeel Moore (3) looks for an opening to pass past Auburn guard Denver Jones (12) during the first half of a SEC tournament game earlier this year in March at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.
