Kansas guard Shakeel Moore will miss up to eight weeks after breaking his foot

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas guard Shakeel Moore could miss up to eight weeks after breaking his foot in a pickup game, potentially leaving the Jayhawks without a second guard for the start of the season following Elmarko Jackson’s knee injury.

The Jayhawks, who are front-runners to be preseason No. 1 in the AP Top 25, open against Howard on Nov. 4.

Moore began his career at NC State before transferring to Mississippi State, where he averaged 7.9 points last season. He committed to the Jayhawks shortly after Jackson tore his patellar tendon, which will cause him to miss the upcoming season.

Kansas coach Bill Self returns veteran guard Dajuan Harris Jr. and backup Jamari McDowell from a team that went 23-11 last season. But he otherwise rebuilt his backcourt in the transfer portal, landing Wisconsin star AJ Storr, South Dakota State guard Zeke Mayo, Alabama standout Rylan Griffen, Noah Shelby from Rice and David Coit from Northern Illinois.

The Jayhawks also return second-team All-American Hunter Dickinson and veteran KJ Adams Jr. in the post.
