The Hoosier’s romp over the 49ers also marks the first time Indiana has started a season at 4-0 since 2020, then under former coach Tom Allen. Per The Athletic, Indiana is the first FBS team to have scored 200 or more points this season, with Indiana scoring 31 points vs. FIU, 77 points vs. Western Illinois and 42 points vs. UCLA before dropping 52 points on Charlotte on Saturday.
Indiana’s success thus far this season is nothing short of impressive by Cignetti and his staff, as the Hoosiers not only lost 39 players to the transfer portal this offseason (via 247Sports), but brought in 31 players from the portal as well.
Cignetti is in his first season at Indiana after five years spent at James Madison, where he turned the Dukes into a nationally ranked program. Cignetti went 52-9 overall in five seasons in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Indiana will resume Big Ten play next week when it welcomes Maryland to town for a noon ET kickoff.
