— Go on the road and beat a ranked team, like Illinois did this week, and you climb a handful of spots.

— New to the ballot this week, BYU, Washington State and Indiana. Two Cougars and the Hoosiers. Having basketball schools Illinois and Indiana on the ballot wasn’t on my BINGO card for this season. BYU scored an impressive win Saturday night against Kansas State.

— Just missing this week: Texas A&M, Boston College and Pitt.

— Notre Dame’s loss to Northern Illinois looks worse with the Huskies falling out of the poll after a loss to Buffalo.
