Illinois basketball lands another 4-star guard commitment from Class of 2025

Illinois basketball’s future lineup got better Wednesday when guard Brandon Lee committed to the program.

The shooting guard is rated a four-star prospect and, according to 247Sports, is ranked No. 98 overall in the 2025 prep class. He is coach Brad Underwood’s second four-star commit from the class, joining Kansas prep guard Keaton Wagler.

Lee, a 6-foot-4 native of Puerto Rico, was the third-leading scorer in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League last spring, averaging 23 points per game. He was named the Breakout MVP of the 17-under division. He is a physical driver with a streaky jumper, and the potential to develop as a 3-point shooter.

Lee is the son of Butch Lee, a basketball legend in Puerto Rico who was Naismith College Player of the Year at Marquette in 1978. Butch was picked 10th overall in the 1978 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks, and became the first Puerto Rico-born player in the NBA.

Brandon Lee is heading into his final prep season at The Patrick School, in Hillside, N.J. He had offers from the Illini, Seton Hall, George Washington, Duquesne, Rhode Island, High Point, Missouri State and NJIT.

“I would describe myself as a player who is willing to do whatever it takes to win,” Lee told basketball site On3. “A three-level scorer that can defend multiple positions someone who works extremely hard to put myself as well as my team in a position to be successful.

“To the Illini fans, I am extremely excited and ready to play in front of you all and bring amazing memories. I’m looking forward to helping Illinois continue their winning tradition and one day bring a NCAA championship to Champaign.”
