Texas basketball lands commitment from John Clark, 4-star post out of Link Academy

Texas men’s basketball head coach Rodney Terry picked up his program’s first commitment of the 2025 class Friday when Houston-area post John Clark pledged to the Longhorns.

Texas basketball received the first commitment for its 2025 class on Friday when four-star forward John Clark picked the Longhorns over finalists Kansas, Texas A&M and Houston.

A Houston-area native who played at Klein Cain High School before spending this season at Link Academy in Missouri, the 6-foot-9, 230-pound Clark is ranked as the country’s No. 40 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings and the No. 5 center. He plays his AAU basketball for TJ Ford Academy in Houston, which was founded by its namesake and former Texas All-American point guard. Ford remains close to the UT program and Longhorns head coach Rodney Terry.

Clark is an elite rebounder at the high-school and AAU level with a developing offensive game. Last season for Cain, he averaged 17.8 points and 13.1 rebounds per game while shooting 61% from the floor.

Clark can sign with Texas when the early signing period begins Nov. 13.
