Jimmies men’s hoops lose 72-66 to Briar Cliff in season opener

Nov. 2—JAMESTOWN — The University of Jamestown’s shooting struggles sunk them in a 72-66 loss to Briar Cliff University on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Harold Newman Arena.

Both teams started this one slowly before the Jimmies picked it up midway through the first half to take a 21-16 lead. From there though the Chargers fought back to take a 26-24 lead. The Jimmies stole some momentum back heading into the half when Jimmy Llinas slammed it down in the dying seconds fo the half to cut the deficit to 31-29.

In the opening half, the Jimmies shot 36% from the field while the Chargers shot 46%. The Jimmies were led by Silas Bennion’s 10 points, and the Chargers were led by Matthew Stilwill’s nine.

Early in the second half, the Jimmies’ Jimmy Llinas settled his team down with an and-one to cut the deficit to 36-34. The Chargers were able to stretch it back out to 49-43 midway through the frame. They continued to stretch it out until the game switched entirely when the Jimmies’ Anthony Walters forced a double dribble with his team losing 63-57. The Jimmies immediately responded with Bennion splashing a three to bring it to within three at 63-60.
