The Nebraska men’s basketball team opened the season with a showdown against Texas Rio Grande Valley. The Huskers battled the Vaqueros throughout the night until late into the second half. Nebraska pulled away at the end with an 18-2 run in the final five minutes, securing the 87-67 win.
Brice Williams led the charge for the Huskers, dropping a career-high 27 points in the win, going 8-of-18 from the field and 10-of-11 from the free throw line. This is also Williams’ fourth straight 20-point outing, carrying over from the final three games of the 2023-2024 season.
Nebraska finished 28-of-57 from the field and 25-of-35 from the free throw line. The Huskers also snatched 42 rebounds and scored 26 points off turnovers. UTRGV shot 24-of-62 but landed 13-of-41 from beyond the arc, helping the Vaqueros stay in the fight against Nebraska.
Utah transfer Rollie Worster scored 18 points after shooting 6-of-7 from the field and hauled in a team-high nine rebounds and four steals. Wisconsin transfer Connor Essegian scored 13 points, going 4-of-5 in shooting and North Dakota State transfer Andrew Morgan dropped 10 points.
The Huskers remain home for their next two games, hosting Bethune-Cookman and Fairleigh Dickinson. Nebraska takes on Bethune-Cookman on Saturday night. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. CT on B1G+.
