Marquette men’s basketball sophomore Al Amadou will redshirt this season

It was pretty clear when Marquette men’s basketball coach Shaka Smart emptied the bench near the end of the Golden Eagles’ 102-62 victory over Stony Brook on Monday night, but sophomore Al Amadou kept on his warm-ups while the walk-ons checked in.

After the game, Smart confirmed that Amadou will redshirt this season.

Amadou has been a project after starting to play basketball as a long-and-athletic teenager. He played just 51 minutes across 14 games last season and scored eight baskets with six of them coming on dunks.

“He’s shown some real glimpses in practice,” Smart said. “His best basketball is still ahead of him. So that’s what we’re planning on.”

Josh Clark, a 7-foot-1 freshman, is also redshirting this season.
