ACM men split first two games

Nov. 5—McHENRY — The Allegany College men’s basketball team split its first two games of the season over the weekend at Garrett College.

The Trojans (1-1) lost the season opener on Friday to Hocking College 100-79.

“Game one against Hocking, we’re 10 freshman deep and it really showed,” ACM head coach Tommie Reams said. “We turned the ball over 25 times and early our rotations defensively just weren’t there. It allowed them several catch and shoot open 3s. We go down early, made adjustments and were fine, but the damage was done.”

Last season, the Hawks went 24-8 and finished seventh overall at the NJCAA Division II tournament.

Hocking connected on 16 3-pointers led by Marvin Good and Treshawn Cody who each hit four.

Good led all scorers with 23 points while Cody added 20.

Sebastian Henson led Allegany with 18 points, adding six rebounds.

Jaylen Brown scored 17 points with eight rebounds and eight assists.

Brandon Anderson added 11 points off the bench for the Trojans.

Allegany High graduate Caiden Chorpenning made his debut for ACM, scoring two points with a steal.

Allegany combined for 25 turnovers against Hocking.

On Saturday, the Trojans bounced back with a 82-61 win over Bryant & Stratton.

“Second game, I thought right away we made adjustments from the day before,” Reams said. “Rotations were crisper, we were better on the glass, played more our tempo. Against Hocking, we let them dictate the tempo, that isn’t who we are. Our guards did a really good job of setting the tempo early.”

Andrew Fagans led ACM with 15 points, adding three rebounds and a steal.

Chorpenning was the only other Trojan in double figures, scoring 10 points with four rebounds and two steals.

Fort Hill graduate Owen Seifarth made his collegiate debut and scored five points with three rebounds and a steal.

This year’s squad features 10 new players, all freshman with only three returners.

Last season, the Trojans went 26-8 and won the Region 20 and East District championships, also reaching the national…
