Arkansas State basketball encountered a bump in the road on its way to face Alabama coach Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide.

Former Alabama basketball assistant coach Bryan Hodgson was seen under the hood of Arkansas State’s bus on Thursday after the belt shredded about two hours from the team’s destination of Tuscaloosa.

Per a report from basketball analyst Jeff Goodman, the Red Wolves will miss Thursday practice leading into Friday’s game in Coleman Coliseum, which is set to tip off at 7 p.m. CT.

Alabama and Arkansas State both enter the 2024-25 season 1-0.

Coach Nate Oats’ crew executed a dominant 110-54 season-opener win over UNC-Asheville on Monday. Meanwhile, Hodgson’s team went to overtime against Akron and came out with an 80-75 victory.

“I don’t necessarily look forward to playing against (former assistants), but I look forward to seeing them,” Oats said during Thursday media availability. “I wish him and (other former UA assistants), I hope they all do well. But for this one game I hope one of my former assistants takes an L.”

Although Alabama vs. Arkansas State will not be televised nationally, it can be streamed on ESPN+.
