Another night, another University of North Florida victory over an opponent from South Carolina.

Three days after making program history with their first-ever triumph against a Southeastern Conference opponent, 74-71 over South Carolina, the Ospreys had an easier time dispatching Charleston Southern on Thursday in their home opener.

True freshman forward Josh Harris had 23 points and eight rebounds, hitting eight of 11 from the floor, sophomore guard Jasai Miles had 21 points and seven rebounds and graduate transfer forward Liam Murphy added 19 points including five of seven from beyond the three-point arc as the Ospreys made nine of 10 three-point attempts in the second half and raced past the Buccaneers 90-66 in front of 2,019 at UNF Arena.

UNF (2-0) is now 14-2 in home openers under coach Matthew Driscoll and improved to 4-2 against the Bucs (0-2).

University of North Florida freshman Josh Harris lays up two of his game-high 23 points on Nov. 7 to lead the Ospreys to a 90-66 victory over the College of Charleston, at UNF Arena.

Driscoll said the danger of not getting over the victory against the Gamecocks was real. But the Ospreys weathered their cold start and never took CSU for granted.

“Everybody was still doing this to us,” Driscoll said, mimicking a pat on the back. “Which they should because [beating the Gamecocks] was earned. It wasn’t a fluke. However, we talked about [a Bible verse] in Philippians … ‘put things behind you and look forward to what lies ahead.’ These guys are young and they’re inexperienced in a lot of different ways but to their credit, they have been really good listeners. I’m super-proud of the way we completed tonight.”

Ospreys were cold from the outside to start

It was ragged at times. The two teams traded the lead 10 times in the first half, and there were three ties. UNF missed its first three three-point attempts, was 5 of 14 at one point and finished the first half making 6 of 19.

But after Harris…
