CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Kendall Bostic helped the Illinois women’s basketball team upset No. 19-ranked Florida State 83-74 in the Illini’s season opener Thursday night.
Bostic scored 18 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished two assists in 39 minutes of playing time. She also had one blocked shot and one steal.
The former Northwestern High School star was her usual efficient self as she made 8 of 10 shots from the field and both of her free throws.
Bostic’s sixth rebound of the game was her 1,000th as an Illini player. The fifth-year senior forward has 1,003 rebounds in four years at Illinois and 1,067 for her college career. She played a year at Michigan State before transferring to Illinois.
Florida State (1-1) won 23 games last season and brought back 75% of its scoring production. The Seminoles have appeared in 11 consecutive NCAA Tournaments.
Illinois is back in action Sunday when it hosts Marquette at 8 p.m.
