The Nebraska men’s basketball team welcomed Bethune-Cookman to Lincoln Saturday night. Following a tight battle with UTRGV, the Husker faced a similar showing in the Wildcats. In a low-scoring battle, Nebraska and Bethune-Cookman traded back and forth with the lead before the Huskers finished on top 63-58.

Nebraska struggled heavily on offense, going 19-of-55 from the field and landing more free throws than shots. But the free throws made the difference. The Huskers took 26 shots from the line due to Bethune-Cookman’s 23 total fouls. Nebraska coughed up 14 fouls but only sent a Wildcat to the line seven times.

The Huskers made 21 free throws while Bethune-Cookman landed five. The Wildcats did outshoot the Nebraska going 22-of-62 from the field and 9-of-26 from beyond the arc. The Huskers delivered defensively, however, snatching six more steals and nine more points off turnovers than Bethune-Cookman.

Juwan Gary finished atop Nebraska’s stat sheet, dropping team-highs in points (11), rebounds (9), and steals (5). Brice Williams joined Gary in double-digits for points scored, racking up ten on the night. Williams also co-led the team in free throws made with four.

Wisconsin transfer Connor Essegian joined Williams in that stat line, going 4-for-4 at the line and finishing the game with eight points. Washington transfer Braxton Meah finished with the highest shooting accuracy for Nebraska, landing 4-of-6 from the field to earn nine points on the night.

The Huskers remain home to host Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. CT on B1G+.
