The UTEP men’s basketball team couldn’t get much going and lost 89-60 to Utah Valley in Orem, Utah.
The Miners fall to 1-1 and Utah Valley is 2-0. It was the first meeting between the two schools Saturday, Nov. 9.
For Utah Valley, players scored in double figures, led by Domonic Nelson with 21 points and Tanner Toolson with 16 points.
The Wolverines made 10 of 19 3-pointers and shot 52.1% from the field for the game.

UTEP, Utah Valley players ejected
UTEP’s Ahamad Bynum and David Terrell Jr., and Utah Valley’s Osiris Grady and Carter Welling were ejected from the game with nearly seven minutes gone in the second half. At the time of the game, UTEP was trailing 58-39.
What went wrong for the Miners
The Miners missed 42 of 57 shots from the field.
UTEP was outrebounded 44-28.
The Miners never led in the game and had just 20 points in the paint.
KJ Thomas a positive for UTEP
The freshman guard had eight points in 14 minutes and made his only 3-point shot attempt.

First half struggles for UTEP
UTEP gave up the first 15 points of the game, cut the lead to 19-14 but eventually trailed 43-28 at the half. The Miners made just 8 of 31 from the field, while Utah Valley made 13 of 24.
Bynum and Devon Barnes led UTEP with nine and eight points respectively. Nelson and Toolson scored 11 points each for the Wolverines.
What’s next for UTEP
UTEP returns home to play host to DII member UTPB on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. MT.
