The Oregon men’s basketball team continues with its early stretch of home nonconference games Tuesday against Portland.

The Ducks (2-0) are coming off back-to-back impressive wins heading into their 8 p.m. matchup against the Pilots (1-1) at Matthew Knight Arena.

Oregon opened the season with a 91-76 win against an experienced UC Riverside squad and then defeated Montana, 79-48, this past Friday.

The Ducks have five players averaging in double-digits scoring, led by the starting frontcourt tandem of center Nate Bittle (16.5 points per game) and forward Kwame Evans Jr. (14.5). Those two are also averaging 10.0 and 6.5 rebounds, respectively.

Starting guard TJ Bamba (13.0) and small forward Brandon Angel (12.0) are also averaging more than 10 points a game. Reserve guard Jadrian Tracey is scoring right at 10.0.

As a team, Oregon is averaging 85.0 points, 43.5 rebounds, shooting 47.6% from the field and starting to get noticed nationally. The Ducks received 37 votes in the USA Today Coaches poll that came out Monday. It was the fifth-most votes for a team not in the top 25.

“We’re playing good,” Evans said after the win against Montana. “Offensively we’re looking really good. We’re playing better than how we started off last year. Defensively we’re starting to come together. … The chemistry’s starting to come along.”

The Pilots are coming off a 94-53 loss to UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. Portland was picked to finish eighth in the preseason coaches’ poll for the newly expanded West Coast Conference.
