Red Wolves handle Little Rock

Arkansas State defeated in-state rival Little Rock 80-63 on Tuesday night at First National Bank Arena. Ten different players scored for the Red Wolves, with three reaching double figures.

A crowd of 5,187, the largest since February 2017, watched as Arkansas State made 13 three-pointers and forced 17 turnovers.

The Red Wolves also out-rebounded Little Rock 42-35, including 20 offensive rebounds.Taryn Todd led Arkansas State with 17 points, tying his career high with three three-pointers. Kobe Julien contributed 16 points and a career-high six steals, making 10 of 12 from the free-throw line. Derrian Ford added 11 points, hitting 3 of 6 from beyond the arc.

Avery Felts and Joseph Pinion each scored nine points off the bench, both connecting on three triples. Terrance Ford Jr. recorded seven assists with just two turnovers and added seven points.

Rashaud Marshall led all players with 11 rebounds, including four offensive boards.Little Rock had a brief lead in the first half, but Arkansas State took control with a 9-0 run and led 33-27 at halftime. Todd and Julien combined for 17 first-half points, with Julien adding five steals.

The Red Wolves extended their lead to 15 points early in the second half, but Little Rock closed the gap to three points behind Mwani Wilkinson’s 20-point performance. Arkansas State responded with a 12-2 run, capped by a Pinion three-pointer, to secure the victory.

The Red Wolves will continue their home stand on Saturday against Stephen F. Austin at 2 p.m., with the game broadcast live on ESPN+.
