UNC basketball’s Hubert Davis talks Derek Dixon, Isaiah Denis, Tar Heels’ 2025 recruiting class

North Carolina basketball has officially announced the signing of two players from the 2025 recruiting class.

Isaiah Denis and Derek Dixon signed national letters of intent on Wednesday, giving UNC head coach Hubert Davis two guards ranked among the top-50 recruits in their class, according to 247Sports.

“Both players are what we wanted and needed in our class of 2026,” Davis said in a school-issued statement. “. … Both players have the skills to be outstanding players for the Tar Heels. We are thankful and blessed to have Isaiah and Derek and their families join the Carolina Basketball Family.”

In the release, Davis offered his thoughts on the Tar Heels’ latest additions as he begins to build the 2025-26 roster.  Here’s what Davis had to say about what Denis and Dixon can provide for UNC.

UNC basketball recruit Isaiah Denis

An in-state recruit for Davis and the Tar Heels, Isaiah Denis is a Concord native who won a state championship at Davidson Day School last season. The 6-foot-5 guard is known for his knack of putting points on the board. The second-ranked player in North Carolina, according to 247Sports, Denis sits at 47th nationally.

Evaluating Isaiah Denis’ game

“Isaiah is an athletic wing that can score on all three levels and will immediately give us the versatility needed out there on the floor,” Davis said. “He’s a great student and it means something to him to play in his home state.”

UNC basketball recruit Derek Dixon

Dixon, the first player in the Class of 2025 to commit to the Tar Heels, is a 6-foot-3 guard from Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C. He’s currently the 48th-ranked player nationally, but Davis is impressed with Dixon’s all-around game.

Breaking down Derek Dixon’s game

“Derek is a complete basketball player that will make an immediate impact on the court, off the court and in the classroom,” Davis said. “He has the ability to shoot, pass and defend at an elite level.”
