Why? Because it’s the first time this season Marquette is stepping up in competition and playing another power-conference team.

Friday night’s game at Maryland is the first of two in a row against Big Ten Conference foes. The No. 15 Golden Eagles (3-0) will return to Fiserv Forum Tuesday to host No. 18 Purdue.

Though Maryland (3-0) is in the revamped 18-team Big Ten, the nonconference contest will have a Big East feel to it. Terrapins coach Kevin Willard was at Seton Hall before leaving for Maryland and legendary television analyst Bill Raftery will be on the call for FS1.
